WATER IN ZAMBIA

 This award winning project was started in 2006 by
the then club president, Richard Pither and member
John Baines. S
ince then it has received support from many clubs 
throughout the UK and other European countries.
over $190,000 has been delivered . . .
The Rotary Clubs of Kusinta-Lusaka and Mongu have assisted . . . .
2009 - 21 new wells completed and sponsored by Rotary Clubs 
in the UK, the Netherlands and in Belgium.
2010 - A further 10 community wells are planned with Rotary sponsorship.

 Richard and John have worked regularly 
with the project in
Zambia and visited all of the 
benefiting communities.

The project work is carried out by Village Water, 
a
UK based charity that carries out a Water and 
Sanitation project in the Western Province of 
Zambia.  They deliver clean water for the first time 
to rural communities by the installation of hand 
dug wells with concrete ring linings and an India 
Mk 2 hand pump.  They put great emphasis on 
hygiene training for each community and ensure 
that a sustainable maintenance programme is in

Donations are matched by generous grants from 
The Rotary Foundation and over $150,000 will 
have been delivered to the project in 3 years 
benefiting over 15,000 people.  The Rotary Club 
of Kusinta-Lusaka has assisted in delivering the 
project.

2007 – 12 new wells completed and sponsored 
by different club in
UK

2008 – 17 new wells completed and sponsored 
by Rotary clubs in
UK , France and Denmark

2009 – 14 new wells are planned that have 
been sponsored by UK Rotary clubs.
